In the event you forgot your password, follow these steps to restore it:

  1. Click on “Forgot Password?” it can be found in the “Student Login” page. Below “Need support?”
  2. “Reset Password” window will open, then fill in the required fields (Mobile number must be the registered mobile number of the registration)
  3. A notification will pop up that the password has been reset and the new password is sent VIA SMS to the registered mobile number, after receiving the SMS, click to “here” to log in the account
  4. Enter the registration number and the password received via SMS. Click on “LOG IN”.

  2. Enter new password following the tips below:
    • The password should be of exactly 8 characters

To open a driving file at Emirates Driving Institute (EDI), you will generally need the following:

Required Documents

  • Original Emirates ID
  • Electronic eye test report (available at EDI main centers or any RTA-approved eye test center in Dubai)
  • Original valid driving license (if you hold one) to determine your required training hours (20, 15, or 10 hours, depending on eligibility)
    • The license must have a visible hologram.
    • If the license is not in Arabic or English, it must be legally translated by an approved legal translation office in Dubai.
    • If your license has been lost, a letter from your country's consulate may be accepted.

Additional Documents (if applicable)

Driver visa holders

  • Medical fitness report from an RTA-approved medical center or hospital.

Residents with visas issued in another emirate
Provide one of the following:

  • Ejari-approved tenancy contract or Title Deed as proof of residence.
  • Copy of the company's trade license (Dubai branch and the branch that issued the residency visa).
  • Letter from your employer confirming that you work in Dubai.
  • Official document confirming that you are currently a student in Dubai.

Diplomats

  • Copy of diplomatic passport.
  • Original Emirates ID (if available).
  • Valid diplomatic card for embassies, consulates, or international organizations (instead of an Emirates ID).
  • Letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs valid for at least six months from the date of submission.

People of Determination

  • Certificate of referral issued by the Licensing Agency.
  • Sanad Card from the Community Development Authority or a People of Determination card.
  • Medical assessment at Rashid Hospital, as required.

Golden Residence Visa holders with a foreign driving license

  • Copy of your valid foreign driving license.
  • You will be required to complete the knowledge test and road test.

Note: The required documents may vary depending on your nationality, visa status, and the driving license category you are applying for. Our team will guide you through the application process and advise you if any additional documents are required.

The minimum age requirements vary by license category:

  • Light Motor Vehicle (Car): 17 years and 6 months to register, 18 years to obtain the license.
  • Motorcycle: 17 years.
  • Heavy Vehicle: 20 years.
  • Bus: 21 years.

Age requirements are subject to the latest RTA regulations.

To obtain a UAE driving license through Emirates Driving Institute (EDI), you need to complete the following steps:

  1. Open a driving file and complete the registration process with EDI/RTA.
  2. Complete an eye test at an RTA-approved eye test centre.
  3. Attend the required theory classes.
  4. Take the mock theory test to prepare for the RTA Theory Test.
  5. Pass the RTA Theory Test.
  6. Complete the required practical driving training based on your driving experience and course requirements.
  7. Pass the required internal assessments, including parking and driving evaluations.
  8. Pass the final RTA Road Test.
  9. Once you successfully pass the final road test, your UAE driving license will be issued.

No. Tourists cannot apply for a UAE driving license. To obtain a driving license in Dubai, you must hold a valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID. Visitors can drive in the UAE only if they hold a valid international driving permit or a driving license that is recognized under UAE regulations.

Courses & Instructors

The driving license depends upon the student's performance and the training course selected. Additional training may apply based on performance. 

For fast-track driving course, you may opt for EDI's Platinum Driving Course or Gold Excellence Driving Course.

Yes, you may register in Al Qusais (HO) and take your driving classes in any of the EDI branch in which training is provided. You may also opt for another branch later during your training at no additional cost.

Yes, if you change from one course to another you will be required to pay AED 120 as course change fees in addition to extra amount to cover the cost difference between the two courses. If the fees of the new course is lower than the existing course the difference will be refunded to the customer. Should you wish to opt for Gold/Platinum course the above mentioned course change fees will not be applicable.

Yes, you may take extra practice sessions. You'll be required to call your course in-charge in advance to book the session. Please note your course session charges will apply per session.

All Beginner students are advised to take simulator classes in order to familiarize themselves with the mechanisms of a real car. It really helps you get the most out of your on-road lessons when they start. Learn to control the car at your own pace in a safe environment before your first on-road lesson. You'll get loads of feedback and we will advise you best ways to deal with tricky situations on road

It is a LMV driving course that will be delivered in high-end luxury cars and services that can be customized to suit customer’s needs.

The time required to obtain a driving license in Dubai depends on several factors, including the type of course selected, previous driving experience/ license from country, availability of training sessions and attendance, RTA test schedules, and successful completion of each test.

For beginners with no previous driving experience, the process usually takes approximately a month or two, provided training is attended regularly without long breaks.

The duration may vary depending on training start date after passing theory test and test attempts. Applicants who hold a valid foreign driving license may require fewer training hours. Depending on eligibility and driving experience, some customers may only need to go direct test courses and require to complete the required theory and road test.

For customers looking for a faster route, EDI VIP Courses offer an accelerated driving license journey with priority scheduling and dedicated support. The VIP process can be completed in approximately 10 working days, subject to eligibility, availability of appointments, completion of required training, and successful passing of all tests.

Fixed Till Pass Course

A comprehensive package designed for customers who prefer a complete driving journey with peace of mind. The package includes training and support until obtaining the UAE driving license, according to the selected package terms and conditions.

Limited Test Course

A structured course option that provides customers with additional confidence through included test attempts. The package covers up to 3 attempts for each RTA test stage (Theory, Parking, and Road Test), along with internal assessment attempts as per course terms.

VIP Driving Courses

For customers who want a premium and accelerated driving license experience, EDI VIP Courses offer priority scheduling, dedicated support, and an enhanced learning journey.

Depending on eligibility, availability, and successful completion of required training and tests, VIP customers can complete their driving license journey in approximately 10 working days.

If you are unable to attend a scheduled training class, please inform EDI at least 48 hours in advance to avoid absent fees. If you miss a class without prior notice, you will be marked as absent and compensatory training charges may apply. The missed class will be rescheduled based on availability.

Yes. You can request to change your driving instructor at any time during your training. Please contact our customer service team or visit your nearest EDI branch, and we will assist you based on instructor availability.

Specialized Courses & Scenarios

Yes a Desert driving license is different from a normal license. It is only used by tourism companies to take tourists to the desert

In this case, without a UAE or International Driving license, the other person cannot attend the course.

License & File Transfer

Yes! You are eligible for 15 hours of car training compared to beginner training of 20 hours only if your valid & original driving license is issued between 2 to 5 years. Click here for the course fees of 15 hours of car training. 

Similarly, you are eligible for 10 hours of car training compared to beginner training only if your valid & original driving license is issued over 5 years. Click here for the course fees of 10 hours of car training.
 

You will be required to provide a clearance letter for your RTA file from the other institute and bring the file to EDI head office located in Qusais or any of the branches of EDI. You will have to go for EDI evaluation test & take 4 hours of mandatory driving sessions, as per RTA rules before you can book your road test. There will be no theory lectures required but if your theory test result has passed the expiry date, you will  have to redo the required stages after the file renewal  as per the RTA instructions.

It’s not possible since you have a learning permit in Abu Dhabi and as per the RTA rule you cannot take driving classes in Dubai

​A person needs to have a UAE driving license to drive in UAE. In order to get a UAE driving license the person must have a residence visa. In this case please check with the RTA

If your US driving license is still valid then you will register as a GCC student

International license will hold no value once you have a residence visa stamped on your passport. Holding your country’s license will help in reduction of classes

No, there are no transfer charges

We would need the following documents and you can start your training:

  1. Passport copy (valid Dubai residence visa).
  2. 2 photographs (passport size).
  3. Original file from traffic department with valid L.P
  4. Letter from previous driving school stating number of classes already taken along with NOC.
  5. Original Emirates Identity Card (E.I.D).

If the training file has been transferred from another emirate to the emirate of Dubai, in accordance with the requirements specified in Article 89 of the Regulations for the Law of traffic, it is applied to one of the two following courses:

  • In case the student didn't reach till the stage of road test (final test) in the other emirate, they will have to undergo all the training and examination requirements for the requested license type contained in the training system in the emirate of Dubai, regardless of the number of training classes received.
  • In case the student has gone through all the training and examination procedures in the other emirates and failed the road test, he will be required to take theory test, parking test, assessment test, 8 practical classes and road test.

Note:

Student must undergo examination of knowledge test in the Emirate of Dubai, regardless of whether the result in the same examination in the other emirate was positive. Failing in this test will require attending all 8 lecturesbefore booking for another knowledge test appointment.

Yes, You can by getting clearance letter and RTA file from other driving institute.

In case the student wants to transfer his/her file to another school or another Emirate when his/her RTA file is expired, he/she has to renew the RTA file first to be able to apply for file transfer.

Payments & Requirements

It is mandatory to have Emirates ID card to open the RTA file. 

After your classes have commenced the course in-charge will then guide you as to when and how you can make the balance course fee

There will be an additional amount of 25DHS as online fee. If you register online, the minimum payment required is 600dhs to register with EDI. You can choose to pay minimum amount or any other amount to pay online

Yes, the eye test is available at EDI's main centers.
