If you are a driver of a large and heavy vehicle such as a truck, tractor or trailer, you will understand that the differences between your vehicle and light vehicle (car) are great. While many of the basic driving principles are similar to those governing light vehicles, manoeuvring and controlling a heavy vehicle vary in many respects.

What will I learn in this course?

You will learn various aspects of heavy truck driving such as the starting, balancing and positioning of the heavy vehicle, learn the gear functions and its purpose, understand the use of the clutch, brake, accelerator, trafficator and dashboard, road markings and signals, changing lanes, vehicle control, anticipation and reaction, courtesy to other road users and the legal restrictions and obligations.

How do I enroll in the course?

  1. Register online or visit any of our main centers/branches.
  2. Click on the ‘Documents Required’ tab for a list of the mandatory documents required for enrollment.
  3. Complete eye test at our main centers or at any of the RTA registered optical shops.

What will my training consist of?

Your heavy truck driving training consists of completing the below mandatory steps:

Step 1: Theory lectures
Step 2: Theory test (RTA)
Step 3: Practical training
Step 4: Parking/Yard test (RTA)
Step 5: Assessment/Internal test (EDI)
Step 6: Road test (RTA)

What if I already have a driving license?

If you hold a valid driving license from the GCC countries (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar) and wish to take the UAE heavy truck driving license, you may take optional practical training or simply appear for the RTA road test.
